| 説明 | CataniaThe church of Santa Maria di Gesù is a church in Catania located on the north side of the square to which it gives its name, in the neighbourhood of the same name; its first construction dates back to 1442.In 1519 it was decorated with the decorations of the Paternò and Porta Chapel created by Antonello Gagini, in 1525 with the altarpiece by Angelo Di Chirico.After the destruction that occurred in the earthquake of 1693, the church was rebuilt at the beginning of the 18th century with its current characteristic façade by Fra' Girolamo Palazzotto and later decorated with stuccoes which, however, during the restoration of the adjacent cloister, resulted in the covering of older works of art.The facade is austere, in Romanesque style, with the lateral decoration, typical of many churches in the Etna area, alternating squared stones of black basalt and white stone. |
