| 説明 | Built between 1927 and 1930, this complex of Arts and Crafts-style buildings was designed by Eliel Saarinen to house the Cranbrook School for Boys, which opened in 1927. The buildings are clad in red brick with gabled and hipped roofs, casement windows, chimneys, bay windows, stone trim and decorative sculptural reliefs, an octagonal tower at the west side of the Upper School Quadrangle, a stone colonnade and pergola at the east side of the Upper School Quadrangle, and roman arched bays. The older buildings of the academy are contributing structures in the Cranbrook Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1989. Today, the complex houses the Cranbrook Upper School, a coeducational private high school. |
