| 説明 | Built in 1910, this Prairie and Sullivanesque-style building was designed by Trost and Trost for the Citizens Bank and Trust Company, organized in 1906, which eventually folded in 1923. The building bears a remarkable similarity to Louis Sullivan's late career "Jewel Box" banks in the Midwestern United States, many of which were designed around the same time as this building. The central arched bay, placement of ornamentation, and departure from Classically-inspired design that was popular with financial institutions at the time make this building more progressive in its aesthetic expression than most of its contemporaries, and reflects the values of the bank that commissioned it. The building is a key example of Henry Trost's work that demonstrates the influence of the Prairie School and Louis Sullivan on his designs, though with regional influence in the choice of materials and other design elements. The ornamentation on this building, despite a few classical influences that are more prominent than in Trost's other work, draws inspiration from the naturalistic ornamentation employed by Sullivan. The building is clad in stucco and tiles with decorative cartouches and trim, and a large arched front bay. The building is a contributing structure in the Bisbee Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Today, the building is vacant. |
