説明 | I love looking at street photography and always wanted to try it but the boldness it requires seemed too much for me. However when I was roadtripping in the US, possibly because I knew there were no people on the streets that weren't strangers I gave it a shot. A shot. Ha-ha-ha photography pun. Horrible. There are so many interesting looking people around. This man, sitting, reading a paper in a dapper suit, just seemed to be too perfect of a subject. First I snuck a photo from the front. The beautiful hedges formed a nice line when I walked behind them so I took a few photos and dashed away. Perhaps he was too into his reading to notice, or he didn't care enough to react, or maybe he even knew I wanted them to be candid. I don't know how I would react if a stranger took my photo without permission. Looking back I noticed that a lot of these photos are over-exposed. I have no excuse why. Maybe I wasn't used to sunny California. The bottom three photos in the comments are very special to me. They were all taken on a whale watching boat in Monterrey, San Fransisco. I had never been whale watching and it was an amazing experience to say the least. It was so humbling and exhilarating to see such massive and graceful animals so close up and in their real environment. It was sunny and warm. I didn't feel seasick. I felt so happy, surrounded by these strangers that seemed to feel the same way. There were a group of friends in their early 20s that made me so happy. They were goofing around, talking about the Never Ending Story, telling me about different colors of jellyfish. Their energy really passed on to me. I took a picture of two of them. The woman in the head scarf seemed to be European. I'm not sure what language her family was speaking. We were sitting on the same bench on the way back into the harbor and she was holding the thickest stack of postcards I had ever seen anyone buy and writing in cursive. She was smiling the most genuine smile. It seemed like she was reminiscing about their trip, maybe even writing about seeing the whales. It made me so happy that she had so much to write, and to so many people. Her daughter (or who I assume was her daughter) was relaxing, her head titled back, soaking the sun and blowing tiny bubbles with her bubblegum. It was just too lovely of a moment not to capture. |
