| 説明 | Built in 1869, this Italianate-style building was designed by Gridley J.F. Bryant to serve as a jail and sheriff’s residence for Penobscot County, replacing a previous county jail built in the 1830s. The building is characterized by its red brick exterior, hipped roof, rusticated stone trim and base, quoins, two-over-two double-hung windows with arched bays, front gable above the one-story main entrance portico, rear granite wing that originally housed all the jail cells with arched windows, which has today been heavily modified and expanded to serve as a modern jail facility. |
