説明 | Looking east down the early 15 nave along side the early 16c south aisle ; The 4-bay granite arcade has 4-centred moulded arches. The internal walls are plastered. Above the nave and chancel are late 19c / early 20c boarded wagon roofs. The early medieval but restored wagon roof over the aisle has moulded purlins and principals. The 15c rood screen with a new vine leaf frieze extending across nave was originally longer and was considerably restored retaining mainly original Perpendicular tracery and some of the frieze. The stairs to the now lost rood gallery can be seen behind the pulpit The church has been restored in 1884 and has some good modern carved bench-ends, amongst the subjects will be found: the emblems of the Passion; a grape vine; the thistle; the arms and initials of Archbishop Temple [elected 1896]; H. E. R. Exon (Bishop Ryle); V. R. I. 1837-91. The seats were given by Miss Hole in memory of Emily Francis Hole, widow of the Rev. Nathaniel John Brassey Hole, Rector of Broadwood Kelly. The ones in the south aisle are probably older In the floor is a stone inscribed: "Here lyeth the body of Richard Downe son of William Downe of this Parish who was here buried the 16th day of December, Anno Domi 1710.In speechless silence my youthful daye soon sped I Left my cradle and Come here to bed."At east end of the aisle is a wall memorial with inscribed slate flanked by Ionic columns to Simon Westlake who died 1667. - Church of St. Mary.
