| 説明 | Yes, this tree was at least as saturated as this image suggests. Seeing it from a distance, I made a beeline to it before I lost the light, and with the last of my film used it to frame this shot across the Charles; could not, unfortunately, remove foreground clutter because of an intervening roadway (and nowhere better to stand). But I just had to get that tree. Kudos to Kodak Gold (not a film that I have tended to use all that much) for so effectively rendering the color; I had to do very little in post. I see a lot of complaints about folks jacking up their saturation, and I suppose some do, but my own experience of color is rather different: most of the time, what one obtains from an initial digital shot or (less often) inverted negative is very flat relative to what I perceive, and one must do some work to emulate the richness of color as I live it. Although I have over time acquired a taste for the beautiful formality of monochrome, there is nothing that match the visceral depth of color in a single sunset, the deep azure of a clear and cloudless sky, the surging aqua of a backlit wave. If some critics' eyes are truly as leaden as their claims attest, then I feel fortunate to be able to drink from this fountain that lies beyond their perception.
