| 説明 | Built in 1940-1942, this Art Moderne-style building was designed by Harley, Ellington and Day to serve as an education center for Engineers, whom were vital to the industries of Detroit. The building was funded by the Horace H. Rackham Foundation, endowed by the estate of Horace H. Rackham (1858-1933), a lawyer whom was a friend of Henry Ford, an early and significant investor in the Ford Motor Company. The building is clad in limestone with large window bays featuring bronze spandrels and bronze-frame windows, decorative carved sculptural reliefs, and a semi-circular bay at the center of the front facade. The building is a contributing structure in the Cultural Center Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The building today remains in use as an educational facility, today being part of the Wayne State University campus. |
