| 説明 | ROM 922.4.129, Reportedly from a temple in Xinjiang Xian(新绛县), Shanxi province, China. Painted and gilded wood, Figure of Bodhisattava, 118.11 x 91.4 cm[Personal Comments: This Bodhisattva is extremely well carved, even miniature detail that can not be seem be worshipers from the front like the palm of a hand is carved with care. Since the crown has a little buddha in the middle, which mean the statue is Avalokiteśvara (Guanying/观音菩萨). However, it needs to be noted that the difference in wood color and lack of gilding might suggest the crown as a later addition. Avalokiteśvara has many types, but this type is very odd, holding a flower? and a triangle shaped object in the right hand (A leaf and a blooming flower that is attached to the hand?). The left hand gesture seems to suggest once holding an object as well (the stem of a lotus?). If so this could be Padmapani Avalokiteshvara, lotus bearer Avalokiteshvara（持莲观音）. ] |
