説明 | Built in 1928-1929, this Egyptian Revival-style building was designed by Elmer F. Behrns to serve as a movie theater for the city of DeKalb. The building features a heavily modified one-story retail podium, which contains multiple businesses, with a prominent lobby facade that projects east from the auditorium towards 2nd Street. The facade of the lobby is clad in cream-colored terra cotta with polychromatic Art Deco and Egyptian motifs, including geometric trim, the emblem of Ra, the Egyptian Sun God, pharaoh sculptural reliefs, a large stained glass window featuring a scarab and the sun, a marquee that is suspended over the front entrance, and a recessed front entrance bay with multiple glass doors, flanked by trapezoidal poster display cases. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Today, the building serves as a live performance theater and events venue. |
