説明 | Mariposa sedge common on slopes near a stream crossing along the trail to Mount Rose, Mount Rose Wilderness, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Carson Range, Sierra Nevada, Washoe County, Nevada. Mariposa sedge is similar to starry broom sedge (Carex pachystachya) in that both belong to the Ovales group of Carex and have subspicate fruiting heads with gynecandrous spikelets, and lanceolate perigynia that are conspicuously veined and with thin serrulate margins that are not strongly winged. Carex mariposana has more of a slender spicate head and perigynia that are more strongly veined compared to those of Carex pachystachya. The leaf sheath is ventrally cross-corrugate in this population, which is similar to the wet site inhabiting Carex neurophora (which has androgynous spikelets and wingless perigynia). |
