| 説明 | 88E513 - Coast Guard towboat "CGC Chippewa" at wharf just upstream from Clark Bridge, Louisville, Kentucky, Ohio River mile 604, May 1988The twin-screw towboat "Chippewa" (doc. # WLR 75404)75 x 22 feet, Cat D353 diesels, 660 hpThis boat was built in 1965 by Maxon Construction Co., Tell City, Indiana.It is owned by the U.S. Coast Guard and, together with the crane barge CGB-99002, serves as a river buoy tender maintaining navigational aids (buoys, lights and daymarks) on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.CGC stands for "Coast Guard Cutter" and CGB stands for "Coast Guard Barge".The Coast Guard designation "WLR" in the documentation number means Coast Guard vessel (W), tender (L) and river (R). At time of this photo (May 1988), the "Chippewa" operated out of Owensboro, Kentucky, but more recently has had a home port near Buchanan, Tennessee, on the Tennessee River.It was still in service as of 2020.See also a 1992 photo of "Chippewa" with CGB-76. |
