| 説明 | A few weeks ago, I cleared a model railway layout from a house in Coggeshall, the late familial home of the modeller who had lived there for a very long time. In one of the boxes of "junk" was the 1929 Edition of the "BBC Guide Book" a rather super hard-backed tome of some 480 pages covering everything from what to listen too, how "Foreigners respond to English transmissions", "Learn to Dance by Radio" and a technical section with some fiercely complicated maths about radio propagation, transmission and reception! Lightening the mood are cartoons by contemporary artists and I was delighted to find these two by the veritable W. Heath Robinson, from whom we derive the idiom "a Heath Robinson affair". If you have never seen his work, I urge you to seek out a copy of "Railway Ribaldry" which he published on behalf of the Great Western Railway, amongst many other works. |
