| 説明 | Hey everyone,I think everyone but Joey and Billy have heard this story but thought I’d send you all the pictures and a brief description of the fish of a lifetime I battled on Thursday. It was about 6 o’clock and after 3 hours of fishing we still were on pace to get skunked, which is definitely out of the ordinary for this time of year on the new river. I finally decided to try to do my best Kevin Van Dam (best pro bass angler) impression with a strike king red eye shad (sexy shad) and started ripping it up out of the grass growing off the bottom of the river. Finally I set the hook and I yell over at my buddy I got one. That was all I said for a couple minutes as what followed that statement was all a new experience to me that left me wondering what the hell was on the end of my line. At first I figured I had set the hook on a downed tree as whatever it was didn’t even turn its head when I set it. But then it pulled…pulled harder than any freshwater fish I had ever encountered. Maybe a minute or two later a huge musky aired out of the water 3 to 5 feet, no exaggeration. I started yelling hooting and hollering (perhaps cursing like a sailor) as the fight continued on for a couple minutes. I must have thought it was exhausted 5 times before I was actually able to get the thing in my lap on top of my kayak. Even then it had one more surge of energy in it and started flopping around, prompting me to throw it off my lap back into the water for fear it was going to snack on my leg. Finally I managed to subdue the monster and now have added a musky to the list of species I have landed. We didn’t have a tape measure with us so we don’t know if it reached the 40” mark for a citation and it weighed in at 12.5 lbs on the scale some guy on a jon boat let us borrow, 2.5 lbs short of citation. None the less I couldn’t be happier, I’d take catching one of those over any bass (or any saltwater) fish I’ve ever caught . It was just the most amazing battle I’ve ever had light tackle, river current, fish aerobatics, light test mono against sharp teeth, I could go on and on about this fight. Honestly 9 times out of ten I probably would have lost that fish but Thursday it was just meant to be. The Musky is commonly known as the fish of a 10,000 casts can’t wait until I get another one. Probably only 9,500 casts to go.See you all soon hope all is well. |
