説明 | This is a seismogram from the Corvallis seismic station in Oregon, USA. The noise is from a magnitude 6.0 offshore earthquake west of Oregon. The quake hit at 11:15 AM, local time, on 30 October 2024. The epicenter was about 291 kilometers ~west of Oregon Dunes. Shaking resulted from right-lateral slip along a ~west-northwest to east-southeast striking fault zone.The quake occurred along the Blanco Transform Fault (often mis-referred to as the Blanco Fracture Zone - fracture zones are extensions of transform faults away from mid-ocean ridges). The Blanco Transform Fault forms part of the boundary between the Juan de Fuca Plate and the Pacific Plate. Love waves are side-to-side surface waves, like a slithering snake.
