| 説明 | Built in 1929 and expanded and renovated in 1936-1937, this Art Deco-style building was designed by Wischmeyer and Arrasmith, and initially consisted of only the present western portion of the building, which served as a terminal and administration building for the airport. The building was tripled in size utilizing funds from the New Deal-era Public Works Administration in 1936-1937, adding the present central and east wings, with the east wing matching the appearance of the original section of the building. The building served as the terminal and administration building of Louisville’s primary airport until commercial passenger service moved to the larger Louisville International Airport in 1947. The building features a red brick exterior with stone trim, metal-frame casement windows, arched bays on the south facade, stone trim surrounds at the main entrance doors, one-story wings to the east and west of the two-story central portion of the building, a control tower on the north facade of the building, and brick buttresses. The building is a contributing structure in the Bowman Field Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. Today, the building remains in use as the administration building and terminal for Bowman Field, as well as housing Le Relais, a french restaurant. |
