説明 | Built in 1873-1878, this Gothic Revival-style building was designed by Projectus Mouly for the Sisters of Loretto to serve as a chapel for the Loretto Academy, a catholic school for girls. The building was based on the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, and was built from locally quarried sandstone. The building features a sandstone exterior with bays featuring pointed arches and trim, buttresses on the side facades and apse, stone pinnacles, a decorative entry portal, decorative tracery, and a rose window above the front entrance. Inside, the chapel features a gothic vaulted ceiling, decorative gothic stone ornament, stained glass windows imported from France via the Santa Fe Trail, and a high balcony accessed via a tall freestanding spiral staircase. The building is a contributing structure in the Santa Fe Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The building was utilized by the Loretto Academy until it closed in 1968, and today, serves as a museum and wedding venue. |
