説明 | Fernleaf lovage in the subalpine on the shelf above the Devil's Stairs and the South Fork of Teton Creek, Teton County, Wyoming. Tall flowering stems upwards of 1 m tall with some steam leaves that are smaller in size than the large basal leaves, all leaves finely dissected into narrow fern-like segments, and fruits with pronounced ribs and a well developed stylopodium distinguish this umbel species. Fernleaf lovage is super abundant and tall on this shelf (or bench) where vegetation has a tall stature on soils with completely mixed upper horizons due to winter rodent burrowing activity. This species may be common and widespread but on this bench above the South Fork of Teton Creek this forb species grows most abundantly and in robust fashion (as do most of the plant species here). Fernleaf lovage is most abundant on limestone substrates in this area, much more so than on shale and granitic substrates. Its leaves turning yellow transform the vegetation into a fall coloration. |
