| 説明 | (screen capture video from the Grindavik web camera atop Thorbjörn)------------------------------------------------At 9:25 PM, local time, on 22 August 2024, a fissure eruption started in southwestern Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula, at Sundhnúkur Crater Row, north-northeast of the town of Grindavik. As with previous eruptions in this area, the active fissure lengthened and basaltic lava flows spread out in multiple directions. Eruption energy and seismicity significantly decreased in the late overnight of 22-23 August and early daytime of 23 August.Since the initiation of the eruption, activity has been concentrated in a limited area. Seen here is an erupting cone along the former active fissure.Update: the eruption ended on 5 or 6 September 2024. |
