It is currently the community center for the Bhutanese community. It is in the way of progress and will be demolished later this year for a housing development and parking. "The Mifflin District No. 5 Schoolhouse is a former school building in Columbus, Ohio, at 3680 Westerville Road. The building was listed as one of the Columbus Landmarks Foundation's Most Endangered Sites in 2024.[1]The building was constructed around 1907, and serves as a good example of early neighborhood schoolhouses. The brick structure includes a distinctive central tower with exposed rafter tails at its roof overhang.[1] Above the building's front door is an engraved stone reading "Mifflin Dist No. 5". After serving as a schoolhouse, the building was utilized as a summer home (beginning in 1925), full-time residence, and as a house of worship (since at least 1989).[3]A recent proposal involved replacing the building and surrounding 12.5 acres with 264 units of multifamily housing and 398 spaces for cars within parking lots. The project was approved by Columbus's development commission in 2023.[1][2]" Previous description: localwiki.org/columbus/Mifflin_District_No._5_Schoolhouse |
