| 説明 | Built in 1949-1950, this Art Moderne-style building was designed by Ernst Johnson, John T. Gilig, and Hugh Meriwether. The building originally served as the main basketball arena for the University of Kentucky Wildcats, and was dedicated in memory of veterans and the war dead of World War I and World War II. The building features a buff brick exterior with decorative patterned brickwork, a curved front facade, glass block and metal-frame windows, a front limestone portico with limestone piers, low wings surrounding the tall central core, which contains the arena, and a sprawling rear addition. The building, as of 2023-2024, is undergoing a major renovation to modernize the interior facilities and arena. |
