説明 | Built in 1892, this Romanesque Revival-style building was designed by Beaver and Hoffmeister and built by M. Cobble to serve as the Rose Public School. The school was later expanded with two one-story Modernist wings in the 1950s, and remained in use as an elementary school until 1976. The building features a red brick exterior, a hipped roof with gables, a large bell tower with an open belfry, pyramidal hipped roof, and corner pinnacles, two cylindrical turrets with conical roofs flanking the bell tower, patterned brickwork and brick corbeling, one-over-one double-hung windows, stone trim, a front entrance recessed behind an arched opening, a rusticated brick base, metal fire escapes, and one-story modernist red brick wings with metal-frame ribbon windows. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The building is today known as the Rose Center, and houses a local history museum. |
