| 説明 | (screen capture video from the Grindavik web camera atop Thorbjörn)------------------------------------------------At 8:22 PM, local time, on 16 March 2024, a fissure eruption started in southwestern Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula, at Sundhnúkur Crater Row, between Mt. Hagafell and Mt. Stóra Skógfell - this is north-northeast of the town of Grindavik. As with previous eruptions in this area, the active fissure lengthened relatively quickly and basaltic lava flows spread out in multiple directions.Fountaining along the fissure gradually decreased in the overnight and early morning hours of 17 March 2024.On 18 and 19 March 2024, fountaining continued at certain vents along the original fissure. Spatter build-ups and spatter cones developed and continued to be active into late March 2024. Occasional collapse events occur along the upper inner walls of the spatter cones.Update: the eruption ended in early May 2024. |
