| 説明 | Built in 1808, this Ottoman-era mosque replaced an earlier mosque on the same site, constructed in 1522-1523 after the conquest of the island of Rhodes by the Ottoman empire. The building features a stucco-clad exterior with arched bays, a domed roof, a stone minaret with two balconies and a finial, a porch with an inner domed portion with vaulted ceilings and arched openings atop stone piers and an outer section with a hipped red terra cotta tile roof with wooden columns and exposed rafter tails, and a courtyard to the north of the building that is home to a domed pavilion housing a Shadirvan, or ablution fountain. The building served as a mosque until the 20th Century, and has been restored as a museum. The building is part of the Old Town of Rhodes, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. |
