| 説明 | Built in the 1300s or 1400s, this Byzantine-style church served the christian population of Rhodes until the Ottoman takeover in 1522. After the Ottoman conquest, the building became a mosque until the early 20th Century, when it closed, and the building’s exterior was restored to its medieval appearance during the Italian Colonial period. The building features a stone exterior, roman arched bays, a cylindrical drum with a domed red terra cotta tile roof, a Greek Cross-shaped footprint. The building is presently undergoing conservation work, and is a part of the Old Town of Rhodes, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. |
