説明 | The front side of green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica) leaf at Virmond Park in Mequon, Wisconsin. In a wetland near the northern edge of the park, which is an Ozaukee County Park.Like conditions in all of eastern Wisconsin, the emerald ash borer has devastated the larger, mature green ash trees in Virmond Park, essentially killing all of them over the last 10 years. However, there is robust growth of small green ash saplings in some locations. At some point in the future, the emerald ash borer will also start to attack the new growth. I don't know if ecologists know what the long-term equilibrium between green ash growth, age & population and the ash borer is expected to be.The Fraxinus genus - the ash trees - is in the Oleaceae (olive and lilac) family and the Lamiales (mint) order. |
