| 説明 | Here's an Ankai G912 belonging to the Jamaica Urban Transit Company, the state owned transport entity that provides public transportation in and around Jamaica's capital city. Ankai (full name Anhui Ankai Automobile Co., Ltd.) is a 25 year old bus manufacturer from the Anhui province in China. These units arrived in Jamaica in Summer of 2023 and are part of an initial order for 50 buses - 5 fully electric, and the rest diesel. These are the first Ankais ordered by the JUTC, but far from the first Chinese buses. The core of the JUTC fleet for the last decade or so has consisted of Belgian VDL Jonckheere buses on Volvo chassis. Jonckheere has now gone out of business, however, and the JUTC began to explore alternatives. With Chinese investment in Jamaican infrastructure growing, Chinese buses became a natural alternative, and the JUTC has purchases dozens of Golden Dragon and Yutong buses in the last few years, with more on the way. We will see if Ankai is able to get any more business from thre JUTC in the near future. |
