| 説明 | Built in 1859-1885, this Classical Revival-style building was designed by Theophil Hansen to house the Academy of Athens. The building housed museums during its early years, before becoming home to the Academy of Athens in 1926, upon the founding of the academy. The building features a marble exterior with a gabled red terra cotta tile roof, ionic porticoes with fluted ionic columns, painted coffered ceilings, painted friezes, acroterions and sculptures, two freestanding ionic columns in the front that support decorative sculptures, corinthian pilasters, corinthian lampposts, and painted ornament. The structure today remains the main building of the Academy of Athens, the most significant research institution in Greece. |
