| 説明 | Built in 1929, this Romanesque Revival-style building was designed by Beacham and LeGrand and built by James Miller to house the Carolina Power and Light Company, and is known as the Public Service Building. The building served as the home of the Carolina Power and Light Company until 1966. The building features a red brick exterior with terra cotta trim, decorative terra cotta reliefs above the doors on the first floor, a large central bay on the first floor with plate glass windows and a transom, red and green tile panels between the windows in the central bays of the second floor, arched transoms with terra cotta screens above the main entrance doors on the first floor, stacked bond brick spandrels between windows on the third through seventh floors, terra cotta balconies at the outer bays of the eighth floor, arched bays in the center of the eighth floor of the principal facades, and blue terra cotta panels at the top of the building on the face of the parapet. The building is a contributing structure in the Downtown Asheville Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and adjusted to its present size in 2011, and today, houses the offices of Self Help Credit Union and other office tenants. |
