| 説明 | Built in 1925-1927, this Art Deco-style church was designed by Douglas Ellington and constructed by Miller Engineering Corporation for the First Baptist Church of Asheville, North Carolina, organized in 1829 as Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. The church features a red brick exterior with a domed red and green terra cotta tile roof, a copper-clad lantern atop the dome, a hectastyle front portico with red brick columns, terra cotta trim, pendant light fixtures, and a front gable parapet, front wooden paneled entrance doors with decorative brick and stone trim surrounds, an octagonal sanctuary with a terra cotta cornice, decorative patterned brickwork at the exterior, a domed ceiling, stained glass windows, and decorative stone trim, lower educational and office wings to the south and east of the sanctuary with terra cotta tile bonnet roofs, stone bases, and one-over-one windows, and modern wings to the south and east of the original structure. The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, and remains in use by the First Baptist Church of Asheville. |
