| 説明 | Built in 1896, this Romanesque Revival-style church was designed by Richard Morris Hunt for George Washington Vanderbilt to serve as an Episcopal Church and landmark centerpiece of the romanticist Biltmore Village, which was based on Medieval villages in northern France. The church features a red terra cotta tile roof with hipped and gabled sections, pebbledash stucco cladding, a semi-circular apse, red brick trim, red brick buttresses, a central tower with a pyramidal hipped roof, roman arched bays with stained glass windows, three of which were created by David Maitland Armstrong and Helen Maitland Armstrong, a porch with brick piers, decorative wooden trim, exposed rafter tails, and a one-story detached parish house with a hipped roof, gabled wall dormers, and large decorative glass windows. The church and parish house were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Today, the church remains in use as an Episcopal Cathedral. |
