| 説明 | Built in 1925-1926, this Classical Revival-style building was designed by Ronald Greene and constructed by James Vester Miller and Samuel I. Bean to replace the police station and fire station that were formerly housed in the old Asheville City Hall, which was built in 1892 on the opposite side of Court Plaza, and was demolished to make way for Pack Square Park in 1928 upon the completion of the present Asheville City Hall. The building features a dark red brick exterior with stone trim, doric stone columns, large garage bays on the first floor, rusticated brick, four-over-four double-hung windows with transoms, and decorative trim surrounds at the entrance doors. The building is a contributing structure in the Downtown Asheville Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and adjusted to its present size in 2011. It remains in use as the home of the headquarters and downtown stations of the Asheville Fire Department and Asheville Police Department. |
