| 説明 | Built in 1969-1970, this Modern Brutalist-style building was designed by Six Associates and built by McDevitt and Street Construction Company for Wachovia Bank to serve as their new branch office in Asheville, replacing the Drhumor Building across Patton Avenue. The building replaced several historic structures, including the Paragon Building, and dominates the east side of Pritchard Park. The building is clad in rough-textured white concrete panels with rectilinear glass curtain bays, which starkly contrast with one another, and features rectilinear, boxy masses that intersect with one another at irregular intervals across the building's facade. The building is a noncontributing structure in the Downtown Asheville Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and adjusted to its present size in 2011. The building today houses the branch offices of Wells Fargo Bank, which bought Wachovia in 2008. |
