| 説明 | This photo was taken during an inspection of New South Wales goldfields by the Deputy Master of the Sydney Mint, Edward Wolstenholme Ward, and Sydney University Professor, John Smith. Helped by their knowledge of chemistry, both became keen amateur photographers and produced early outdoor views of Australia. This image was probably taken at Adelong, in the Riverina district, where they inspected the quartz-crushing machinery to report on its viability. Smith can be seen at the front, and the man in a top hat is probably William ‘Charcoal’ Williams, who discovered gold in the region at Mt Charcoal in 1857. by EW Wardstereoscopic album printspurchased from Kenwyn A.
