| 説明 | The name of Struisbaai is uncertain in origin. Some say it comes from the thatch or straw roofs of the fisherman cottages, some say it comes from the ostriches that used to live in the area, and some say it comes from an old Dutch word meaning "huge" because of the long beach.Struisbaai has the longest natural beach in the Southern Hemisphere, stretching for 14 km from Struisbaai to Arniston. The beach is popular for fishing, surfing, kiteboarding, windsurfing, and swimming.Struisbaai has a colourful harbour where traditional fisherman bring in their daily catch and sell fresh fish to visitors. The harbour is also home to a resident stingray named Parrie, who is friendly and likes to be fed by tourists.Struisbaai hosts the annual Geelstertfees (Yellowtail festival) which celebrates the local fishing culture and cuisine. The festival features food stalls, artists, and musical performers. www.facebook.com/GeelstertFees/ Struisbaai has a history of shipwrecks due to the treacherous waters off its coast. At least 30 vessels have run aground since 1673, including the Meermin, a Dutch ship that was involved in a slave mutiny in 1766, and the Jardinière, a French ship that sank in 1794.Struisbaai has a number of attractions and activities for visitors, such as hiking, trail running, mountain biking, diving, whale watching, birding, and paintball. |
