| 説明 | A tram ride in Malawati village up the hill to Bukit Malawati (Malawati Hill) is part of the Kuala Selangor fireflies tour. The tram actually turned out to be an agricultural tractor pulling a few wagons, one of which I an in right now. Kuala Selangor is a small coastal village northwest of Kuala Lumpur. Once renowned for pewter, there is no sign of that now. Today, Kuala Selangor is famous for fireflies spotting along the Selangor River that runs through the village. Called Kelip-Kelip in Bahasa Melayu (the local Malay language), the fireflies can be spotted found on the mangrove trees along the river. It is said that this is one of the biggest firefly colonies in the world, however I found the viewing a tad disappointing as the number of these critters was a lot more concentrated in the Philippines, when I had visited there back in 2013. The boat rides for fireflies spotting actually start from a small village called Kampung Kuantan, some 9 km from Kuala Selangor. Hence solo travelers and those not wanting to take the tour all the way from KL could have some difficulties getting to and from Kampung Kuantan. (Kuala Selangor, Malaysia, Sept. 2023) |
