説明 | Anna and vehicles on Dosewallips Road at the apparently "permanent" washout. First a logging railroad, then a road, now a "trail". Access to Elkhorn Campground, Dosewallips Campground, Dosewallips Ranger Station, and several trailheads used to be a few minutes drive from here. Now, you have to hike four miles on a flat road through National Forest just to get to the National Park Boundary. This section of road has been closed for so long, it appears the National Forest Service and National Park Service have no serious plans to ever reopen it. They likely prefer it remain closed, effectively turning this previously popular portion of Dosewallips River into a de-facto "Wilderness", even though the road has a very generous 0.25 to 0.5-mile wide "cherry stem" buffer between the surrounding "Wilderness". Closed roads and ranger stations, and lack of road and trail maintenance, was prevalent throughout Olympic National Park, part of the Nationl Park Service "management through closure" federal administrative state approach to resource preservation. |
