| 説明 | The unveiling of the statue was postponed from the 22nd of December 2010, due to the freezing conditions and the snow. Hopefully it will be rearranged for sometime in 2011.In the meantime, I returned to get shots of the plinth, with the new bronze.Also the new sceptre and orb are installed.Shots and details of the restored plinth.The enscription from the original 1913 unveiling. It was funded along with the King Edward VII Memorial Children's Hospital (the site is now Broadway Plaza). All that remains of that is the frontage.The restoration of the Edward VII statue is almost finished. It has now been installed in Centenary Square outside Baskerville House.It was made by the sculptor Albert Toft. It was originally paid for by the readers of the Birmingham Mail after the King's death in 1910. It was unveiled in Victoria Square in 1913, before moving to Highgate Park in 1951.In the almost 60 years since it was there, it got heavily vandalised (in Highgate Park) and no one could see it.It was removed in 2009 for a full restoration, to be installed here in Centenary Square.The statue is Grade II listed.The following text from Heritage Gateway was when it was still in Highgate Park.1913 Albert Toft sculptor. Stone standing figure of the King in Field Marshal's uniform and Garter Robes set on high sandstone plinth with bronze groups of Education and Progress (including youth and boy with model of Tower Bridge) on the left side and Peace on the right, a female seated figure with attributes, good flowing drapery and sensitive faces. To the front face is a far more Act Nouvean composition in bronze of a crowned drapery niche containing a small figure of St George and the Dragon.
