説明 | Built in 1909-1910, this Prairie-style house was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and resulted from a chance meeting between Rev. Jesse R. Zeigler and Frank Lloyd Wright while both were traveling to Europe in 1909, being the only house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the state of Kentucky, and being based on Wright’s “A Fireproof House for $5000” design. The house sits among a diverse mix of late 19th Century and early 20th Century houses, and, despite its small size, stands out for its unique cladding material and design. The house is clad in stucco with ribbon art glass windows, wooden trim, a hipped roof with wide overhanging leaves, large window boxes beneath the second-story windows, an uncovered front terrace, and a covered side porch at the entrance door with a screen wall. The house features an open floor plan on the first floor with a living room, dining room, and kitchen wrapping around a chimney in the center of the space, and the second story containing multiple bedrooms and a bathroom. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, and is a contributing structure in the South Frankfort Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The house today remains a private residence. |
