| 説明 | Undated altar tomb under an arch on the north chancel wall of William Ashford / Ayshford 1508 & his wives Elizabeth Francis & Margaret Cotterell Hingeston Under the inscribed black marbletop are Beerstone sides carved as a blind crocketted arcade with angels holding shields. Repainted in 19c or 20cWilliam, born in 1456 was the son of John Ashford 1468 and Florence 1520 daughter of William Paulet of Hinton St George in Somerset and Elizabeth daughter of Sir John Denebaud 1429 flic.kr/p/q9bJXZ & Florence I'Arcedekne)William was only 12 when his father died, on 24 Sept 1468. Fortunately, 4 years before his death his father John Ayshford had made provision for William, so that on his death, he did not become a ward of the king with the Ayshford estates in the hands of strangers until his majority., he arranged that William’s affairs should be handled by his maternal grandfather Sir William Paulet. On reaching 21, William proved his age in order to claim his inheritance.
