| 説明 | Fort Tregantle is the largest of the Plymouth Defences. Completed in 1865 it was a mammoth undertaking, with barrack accommodation for up to 2,000 soldiers and emplacements for 35 main armaments, it worked in conjunction with Fort Scraesden to form the western defences protecting Plymouth and Davenport dockyards. Tregantle was more than a coastal battery, having guns facing seaward, landward and also, thanks to the large keep, inwards.Fort Tregantle is still under MOD ownership and this visit was with permission of the range staff working on that day. It was only possible to visit the external areas on this walkaround. |
