| 説明 | Built in 1930, this Art Deco-style building was designed by Hake and Kuch to house the Library for the University of Cincinnati, replacing the earlier Van Wormer Library. The building is clad in limestone and red brick, with bronze doors, transom screens, torchiere-style light fixtures, and window grilles on the first floor of the front facade at the central and outer bays, decorative Art Deco stylized Classical ornament, decorative sculptural reliefs, tall metal frame windows, a pedestrian bridge at the front entrance over a service driveway below, and contrasting recessed spandrel panels on the side and rear facades between the windows, which are arranged in a regular grid formation. Inside, the building features many original elements, including stone wainscoting, Art Deco-style ceiling light fixtures, terrazzo and wood floors, original staircases, recessed water fountains on the walls, vaulted ceilings, and a decorative bronze surround at the main entry door. The building served as the university’s main library until 1979, when Langsam Library was built. The building was subsequently renovated and reopened in 1983 as the Archives and Rare Books Library, along with housing the library for the College Conservatory of Music (CCM), the Classics Library, and the Curriculum Resources Center for the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services. |
