| 説明 | CF du Nord Class 4 (SNCF Class 040A) 0-8-0 No.4.853 at Longueville depot during the AJECTA Festival, 8 May 2023. No.4.853 was built by Cail (Denain) (W/No.1496) in 1866.Designed by the Nord’s CME Jules Petiet, 410 Class 4’s were built by many French constructors in 1866-91, becoming the main heavy goods engine of the Nord into WWI although by the time the SNCF was formed in 1938 only two were left to incorporate into it. However, 104 were rebuilt as 0-8-0T’s from 1907 and many of these survived to serve with the SNCF as Class 040TA. Moreover, many of the tender variety were sold by the Nord to industrial concerns, especially to the sugar industry, including No.4.853. It was withdrawn in December 1931 and sold to a sugar company in Vauciennes where it worked until the mid-1960’s when diesels arrrived, although it was kept in reserve until 1974 when it was sold into preservation. |
