| 説明 | Name: Ellisdale / Elsdale, William Service Number: 4484 Place of Enlistment: Toowoomba, QLD View the original image at the State Library of Queensland: hdl.handle.net/10462/deriv/353398Biographical History: William (Billy) Elsdale (1883-1916) was born in Normanby, Qld and was employed as a police tracker in Charleville when he volunteered in September 1915. Initially assigned to the 9th Infantry Battalion, on arrival in Egypt he was transferred to the newly formed 47th. The unit then sailed to France and were stationed at Outtersteen, near the Belgian border. Weeks later during operations at Fleubaix, Billy Elsdale was killed in action on 7 July 1916, he is interred at the Rue-David Military Cemetery, Fleubaix along with 87 other Australian servicemen.
