| 説明 | Built in 1968 in the Modern style, this ten-story brick, glass, and concrete edifice was built to house the government and urban courthouse of Kenton County, Kentucky, and stands at the corner of Park Place and Court Street in Downtown Covington. The building is on the site of the former Covington Post Office and Federal Courthouse, built in the Gothic Revival style in 1876 and utilized for its original purpose until a new building was built further up Scott Boulevard in 1940, after which it was home to the Kenton County Vocational School, now the Gateway Community & Technical College, until they moved to a new campus adjacent to Devou Park in 1962. Between 1962 and 1968, the old building was utilized as storage, before the beautiful and graceful edifice was destroyed for a new county building, which features large, blank expanses of brick on the exterior, with long slits of alternating concrete panels and narrow windows. The building remained largely the same on the exterior for its time as the Kenton County Building, only receiving an addition on the western facade in the Postmodern style, which housed additional service areas. In 2019, the building was vacated by the county government, which moved to the former Bavarian Brewery complex on 12th Street, overlooking Interstate 75. The now-former Kenton County Building is slated for a total re-skinning and transformation into an upscale residential tower. |
