説明 | Northfields Underground Station, 6 April 2023. The original station was a very basic halt, opened in April 1908 on the existing (1883) Metropolitan District Railway line to Hounslow Town. It was named Northfield (Ealing) but renamed Northfields and Little Ealing in 1911 when the halt was rebuilt as a proper station. In 1931-32 the station was rebuilt a second time by the Underground Electric Railways of London in preparation for Piccadilly Railway services running there in January 1933. District Line services ceased serving Northfields in 1964.The new station was built on a slightly different site (to allow the building of Northfields Depot on the existing one) and named Northfields, opening in July 1932. It was designed by the UERL’s consultant architect, Charles Holden, in European Moderne style. He was assisted by the UERL’s Chief Architect, Stanley Heaps. The building is proportioned as a box and is a Grade II listed building. Pictured is the ticket hall. Note blue-black enamelled bricks at lower level. |
