説明 | Built circa 1948, this modern building was built to house the Columbus Fire Department, replacing their previous quarters inside Columbus City Hall. The organization was established in 1877 to serve the community, alongside two other firefighting organizations it later absorbed, and historically did not serve only in a public safety role within the community, but also as a fraternal organization, organizing parades, festivals, as well as the local Firemen’s Park and its pavilion. The fire station is clad in buff brick with large garage bays at the south end of the building, a projected wing on the side with ribbon windows that wrap the corner next to the garage bays, which is also clad in stone, which wraps the corners and clads the spandrels between windows on the side facade, a single garage bay on the rear facade, and a low-slope roof. The building continues to house the Columbus Fire Department, which, like fire departments in many smaller Wisconsin communities, is made up of a volunteer force. |
