| 説明 | Magenta buds turning into pink blossoms on a Kwanzan cherry tree. The blurriness (from the very shallow depth of field) enhances the dream-like quality of the pink blossoms, as they seem to blend into a pale, featureless sky. Seen nineteen days after the spring equinox, apparently near the beginning of blooming. This Kwanzan cherry tree is quite old, probably 57 years, likely planted in 1966 during a decades-long period of planting cherry trees around Lake Merritt in Oakland CA. At one time, there were over a thousand cherry trees around the lake. Now only a dozen or so remain, including this one, growing between the Pergola and Bellevue Ave. Thanks to Darwin BondGraham and the staff of Oaklandside for bringing these trees to our attention, and for publishing a detailed history of these wonderful trees! |
