説明Gaddy GardenTower Grove ParkSt. Louis MOIt was like a little like paradise inside Gaddy Garden at Tower Grove Park - there so so many birds! The winds had been right the night before for a lot of migratory bird movement and WOW, did the birds appear. There were so many Winter Wrens bopping about (at least ten), they were zipping over our feet. Watch the video of one eating some kind of pink larvae! We were delighted by seeing our first of the spring season Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and LARGE female American Woodcock. Eastern Phoebes were flycatching wherever we looked- at least twelve. Hermit Thrush quietly moved on the ground around us. Numerous Fox Sparrows were doing their thing - scratching like crazy at the ground for insect yummies. Many more Song Sparrows had flown in. White-throated Sparrows, too. (Twenty plus Field Sparrows foraged just outside Gaddy in a field just east, as did tons of other birds.) Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers were more numerous, but most numerous were the tiny kings, the Golden-crowned Kinglets. They were literally on every other branch throughout the small sanctuary, a sanctuary crowded with birds! Maybe 10 Brown Creepers were furiously foraging and so close, within a few feet. A few Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Eastern Towhees, Brown Thrashers, Grackles, Rusties, Goldfinch, and so many other species had joined in the voracious search for food and water. We were surrounded - and so joyous that we just kept gushing to each other how marvelous it was to be there. I'll add some photos to this post as I edit them. Spring migration is happening! Get thee to a park now through May!
