説明The "Monolith" is a central sculpture in Frogner Park, Oslo, Norway, which is part of the larger collection of 212 bronze, granite, and cast iron sculptures created by Gustav Vigeland. The Monolith is a 46-foot tall tower of 121 human figures, all carved from a single block of granite, stacked on top of each other in a spiraling pattern. The figures, including adults and children, depict various emotions and stages of life, and the overall effect is one of energy, movement, and fluidity. The Monolith is considered one of the most iconic and recognizable sculptures in the park, and a symbol of the power and beauty of human life.In the autumn of 1927 a block of granite weighing several hundred tons was delivered to the park from a quarry in Halden. It was erected a year later and a wooden shed was built around it to keep out the elements. Vigeland’s plaster model was erected next to it for reference. Transferring the design began in 1929 and took three masons 14 years to accomplish. The Monolith was first shown to the public at Christmas 1944, and 180,000 people crowded into the wooden shed to get a close look at the creation. The shed was demolished shortly afterwards. Frogner Park, also known as Frognerparken, is one of the most popular and well-known attractions in Oslo. Located in the Frogner district of the Norwegian capital, it is the largest park in the city and is home to a wide variety of sculptures, monuments, and gardens. The park is most famous for its Vigeland Installation, a permanent outdoor exhibition of 212 sculptures created by the Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland. The sculptures, made from bronze and granite, represent a variety of human emotions and activities, from joy to despair, from love to death. The installation is spread out over the park, with various sculptures located throughout the park's paths and gardens. The park is the largest sculpture park in the world dedicated to a single artist.
